My name is Aidan Pustay. I am 20 years old and an Information Sciences and Technology (IST) major at Penn State University. This is the first mobile app and website I have made.
I created this app for two main reasons. The first was to gain practice with coding and app development and give me something I could showcase on my résumé and discuss in job interviews.
The second reason was to fill a specific need. The idea came to me after participating in a casual basketball pickup tournament hosted by a friend. We wanted to track stats, but the existing apps didn’t suit our needs. We weren’t using timers or tracking player rotationsm, we just wanted simple stat tracking for casual games where 2s and 3s were worth 1 and 2 points, respectively. Most apps were overly complex or structured for regulation games.
So I decided to build Boxscore, a lightweight app that does exactly what we needed. Even if it only helps a few people, I’m glad to have made something useful and to have learned so much in the process.
I built this companion website for two reasons as well: to provide a hub where users can learn more about the app, and to document my development process for future employers. It’s both a resource for users and a reflection of my skills, growth, and approach to problem-solving.
